Gather and analyze complex data from a variety of sources using statistical best practices
Develop end-to-end solutions for our business partners from requirements specification, data gathering and analysis, to presentation and adoption
Use diagnostic and predictive methods to produce insights and recommend actions that impact business
Minimum 1-2 years' experience performing quantitative data analysis in a business setting
Knowledge of and experience in machine learning methods
Strong technical skills. Comfortable writing complex SQL queries to extract and integrate data from multiple database sources
Proficient in using one or more statistical programming languages (i.e., Python/SAS) for data science. Some experience in SAS is preferred, and a willingness to use it while Python becomes more established is required
Strong communication skills and the ability to express complex data concepts in terms non-analysts and business leaders can understand
BSc/M.S. in a statistical, mathematical, or technical field (e.g., computer science) or equivalent experience
The candidate selected for this role is required to attain Canadian Reliability Security Clearance (administered by submitting fingerprints to the RCMP, who then conduct min. 5 year history checks)

Role Summary

The RA&S Advanced Analytics team is seeking an aspiring data scientist to join our team to support our ever-growing data & insights needs within our business unit. Reporting to the Director, Advanced Analytics you will have the opportunity to be at the forefront of applying data and analytics to tackle business problems. You will be helping Sun Life use analytics to deliver on our purpose of helping our Clients achieve lifetime financial security and live healthier lives.
As a junior data scientist, you will use data to derive insights and implement data science solutions for our internal partners and our Clients. You will use a variety of analytical techniques, including statistical modeling, to improve decision-making and efficiency.

How to wrangle structured data is a must (i.e., SQL) with strong SAS or Python skills needed. The team currently works in SAS but the transition to Python is imminent.
